The "Colleen" is an honorary position for a young girl of Irish decescent during the St. Patrick's Day's festivities. SAPADAPASO elects a new "Colleen" every year just prior to the parade. Here is the general scoop about the SaPaDaPaSo "Colleen": |
The Irish "Colleen" has honorary duties, and attends the Annual St.Patrick's Day "Hooley" (an Irish Get-Together) and helps hand out door prizes etc. She also rides in a convertible during the parade on March 17th and serves as one of our dignitaries for the day. After the parade is over, our little "Colleen" helps hand out awards at our post-parade awards ceremony. It's a nice honor for her, indeed!. But, seeing as she is representing the Irish group of SAPADAPASO, The "Colleen" must have some Irish heritage of her own.
The applicant writes a short essay on "why she wants to become the "Colleen"", and her essay (along with her photo) are screened by SapaDaPaSo members.. upon recommendation by a paid-up member (based on the application content), the finalists are judged by three (non SAPADAPASO) judges (to be fair indeed!!) and the winner is named the "Colleen". The judges do not know the girls names at the time of judging etc....the only criteria are their photo & essay content, etc...
(These are the general guidelines, but make sure to use the form, found above to submit your nomination.) [a] Fill out the form either in the link.. [b] The candidate must be single, between sixteen and twenty-three years of age, with some Irish ancestry. [c] Candidates are required to write a letter explaining why she would like to be SaPaDaPaSo’s Irish "Colleen". [d] (Please be sure to submit a photo or snapshot.) [e] The candidates must be nominated by a CURRENT paid up member of SaPaDaPaSo in order to be included in final judging. [f] Entries will be judged by a
panel of three impartial judges. The winner
will be notified by the first week in March. |
